Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy CenterManual therapy uses the hands to manipulate the tissues, joints and ligaments below the surface of the skin. It utilizes very specific hands-on techniques whose purpose is to decrease pain and inflammation and increase range of motion. Global Clinic began as a chiropractic/manual therapy clinic; and manual therapy remains part of our essential skill set. We use it in most patients’ course of treatment depending on the kind of problem they have.

  • Manual therapy uses targeted techniques to control pain and increase mobility
  • It goes beyond the capability of machines to find and relieve problems
  • Manual therapy can be used to treat joint, tissue and ligament conditions
  • Global Clinic has a long history using manual techniques
  • Manual therapy remains an essential part of GHC’s treatment program

It’s very common for patients to assume that massage and manual therapy is the same thing because they both use the hands to manipulate the tissues, joints and ligaments below the surface of the skin. However, that really is not the case. Manual, rather than massage therapy is defined as a clinical approach because it uses very specific hands-on techniques such as:

  • Myofascial Release – This is a therapy that relaxes contracted muscles, increases circulation and strengths muscles so they can stretch more easily.
  • Trigger Point Therapy – The trigger points referred to here are small knots within the muscles that cause pain. Using the hands to manipulate trigger points allows the therapist to dissipate them.
  • Soft Tissue Mobilization – This restores joint movement and range of motion.
  • Strain/Counter Strain Techniques- The injured muscle is gently stretched into its natural position. When the original position is resumed, pain no longer exists.

The purpose of these techniques is to reduce pain and inflammation and increase range of motion. No medical option or machine can do a better job than manual therapy in finding the source of the problem and relieving it.

Global Clinic evolved from a chiropractic/manual therapy clinic into the multidisciplinary facility it is today. That’s important for our patients to remember because manual therapy remains part of our core skill set. We use it to treat many kinds of disorders and we know how much manual therapy to include in a patient’s course of treatment depending on the kind of problem they have.
